Villanueva 2024
Vino de Pueblo – Villanueva de Ávila
WINE TYPE: 100% Garnacha tinta. RED. Village Wine. PDO Cebreros
THE VINEYARDS: Bush-vine Garnacha vineyards with an average age of 70 years, decomposed granite soil at 950-1000 meters of altitude, located in the areas of Robledillo and Roblellano in the village of Villanueva de Ávila, Alto Alberche Valley, Sierra de Gredos.
WINEMAKING: After a difficult year due to the frosts on April 23rd that reduced production by more than half, the harvest was carried out between September 21st and 23rd, 2024, in 20kg boxes, with foot-treading of the grapes as traditionally done, carrying out vinification by plot. Long macerations (around 35-40 days) and minimal intervention, using 20-30% whole clusters and native yeasts from the grapes.
Aging takes place in 500L and 225L French oak barrels of various uses, with spontaneous malolactic fermentation. After 6-8 months of aging, depending on the plot, the wine was racked and prepared for bottling.
Wine unfiltered and unfined.
TASTING NOTES:
It presents a garnet color and a concentrated nose, with aromas of red fruits, wild herbs and a subtle earthy background that reveals its origin and terroir.
On the palate it has a medium body with good intensity, showing juicy but restrained fruit, supported by fine and slightly dusty tannins that contribute a rustic character.
